Austin Wayne Self & Mason Mitchell Motorsports Earn Top-Ten finish at New Jersey Motorsports Park

(Mooresville, N.C., May 25, 2015--) Austin Wayne Self (AWS) driver of the No. 98 AM Technical Solutions Ford Fusion for Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM), worked all afternoon long with his team to put themselves in a position to win the Unique Pretzels 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sunday. Self took over the lead at lap 44 and led the next 16 circuits before the caution waved on lap 57. On the ensuing restart Self made a daring three-wide pass in turn 1 to move from fourth back to the lead. The lead was short lived as Self was hit from behind by another competitor and forced off course. The 2014 Scott Rookie of The Year would rebound to finish in the seventh position for his fifth top-ten of the 2015 season.

“We really fought all weekend long in practice and qualifying to find the handling on the car but the MMM crew kept working on it and when the race started, we went to the front,” Self stated.

“We made a great three-wide pass on the second to last restart going into turn one to retake the lead but then I got hit from behind and forced off the track heading into turn two. I’m glad we came home in one piece to finish with another top-ten but this one hurts because I know we had a chance to win the race.”

Saturday in Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell Self qualified the No. 98 in the 13th position.

When the green flag waved on the seventh race of the 2015 season it did not take Self and the No. 98 team long to move into the top-ten. By lap six the second year driver maneuvered his way into the seventh position.

Crew chief Matt Weber brought Self and the No. 98 car down pit-road under caution at lap nine for four tires and fuel.

Self would restart outside of the top-ten but during the afternoon’s longest green flag run of 33 laps Self drove the No. 98 into the lead on lap 44 and built a nine second lead over second place until the caution waved on lap 57.

On the restart at lap 61 Self would make a three-wide move in turn one and retake the lead from Cole Custer until he was forced off the track in turn two. Self was able to drive back on the track and work his way back up to the seventh position at the finish.

With the seventh place finish Self and MMM stay 4th in points and trail point leader Grant Enfinger by 75 points heading into the off weekend.

The Pocono ARCA 200 will take place Saturday, June 6th. The race will be broadcasted live on the Fox Sports 2 beginning beginning at 1:00 p.m. eastern. will also have live timing and scoring for all on-track activity.
